An amazing night of fun, competition, prizes and wine at The Princess Project – San Diego Runway Event… if you didn’t attend you missed out!
I recently have had the privilege of volunteering for The Princess Project – San Diego, a non-profit organization that serves San Diego high school girls who might not otherwise be able to afford a prom dress and accessories. This organization has become one of my passions! I chose to volunteer at their fundraising event the 4th Annual Princess Project RUNWAY, which was held on March 29th at the Fifty-Seven Degrees Wine Bar which is a fabulous place to hold an event, the staff was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and warm. The Princess Project RUNWAY event was amazing, the Wine was fabulous and the people involved were fantastic. There were many local companies that donated incredible silent auction and raffle prizes and I was the lucky recipient of 2 of those great prizes, which allowed The Princess Project – San Diego to raise funds to make the dreams of many San Diego girls to have a dress for Prom a reality! The photography for the event was provided by Ocean Sparrow Productions and Nancy did an amazing job (as you can see from the pictures above)!
The Princess Project – San Diego was privileged to have five up and coming designers from FIDM – Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising compete in an exciting prom dress competition. The designers had just completed their first year at FIDM, Lena Lollis (Red Dress) is San Diego native, wants to pursue costume design and is inspired by Tim Burton; Angeline Minocci (Gold Dress) knew she wanted to be a designer since she was 5 and is just excited for the big adventures ahead of her, she was also the Runner Up; Ryan Poole (Gray Dress) is from Provo, Utah, she began designing her own ballroom costumes for competition and wants to pursue her own clothing line; Alan Huang (Black Dress), is a San Diego native, he enjoys art & photography and this is what inspires his fashion design, he also won the competition; Xylina Lim (Teal Dress) is a San Diego native and dreams of pursuing a career in theatrical costume design. Each designers provided a beautiful sketch of the Prom Dress Designs, they were given one hour to execute their sketch to a fashionable prom dress with only fabric and dress form and they all did a beautiful job creating their visions and to see additional photos of the designs and event click here.
The Princess Project – San Diego was able to have some fantastic judges and local news talent, Gordana Gehlhausen, contestant on Project Runway Season 6 and All-Stars, Fashion Designer & Owner of GOGA by Gordana, Elena Ham, Fashion Designer & owner of VaLena Valentina Couture bridal designs, and due to last minute change I was asked to participate as a Judge (I was so honored and humbled to be asked). Jodi Kodesh of NBC San Diego News was the Emcee for the night, this was her fourth year and she was awesome. I do have to say I was a little awe struck meeting each of these amazing ladies, I have followed Project Runway since the first season, and have begun to enjoy exploring the fashion community here in San Diego.
I just want to take the opportunity to tell all the amazing ladies that serve on the Steering Committee for The Princess Project – San Diego, what an amazing opportunity you are providing the high school girls of San Diego but giving of your time, sweat and heart to make this event and all the Dress Giveaways a major success! Thank you!
